I was born in New Orleans
where Mardi Gras was a lot of fun
with its wild clothes, beads, and balloons,
cotton candy, floats, bands and crazy
dancing in the streets.
When I visited the Ivory Coast,
I met a man weaving on a simple loom tied
to a tree weighted with stones.
I loved the exciting color and patterns on the clothes
that people wore all day long.
Bright colors make me want to weave something wild.
I take colors and make them brighter for me.
I was a sad kid, weaving makes me happy again.
This is how I see the world.
